DOT Likely To Ask Airtel To Stop 3G Service in 7 Circles
Department Of Telecom is planning to issue notice to Bharati Airtel to stop 3G offerings in 7 circles within fifteen days where they have not obtained licence to provide 3G service.
DOT is also planning to ask the company to pay a penality of Rs.350 Crore (50 crore for every 7 circles) for providing 3G service in these areas.
Airtel was providing 3G service in 7 circles through roaming agreements with Vodafone and Idea. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea were providing 3G in areas where atleast one had licence through these roaming agreements.
It is believed that very soon DOT will be issuing similar notice to Vodafone and Idea too.
