Nexus 5 vs iPhone 5S: Which one’s a better buy this Diwali?
With countless smartphones flooding the market and many more coming
up, it is wise to compare a few before making the purchase. It’s Diwali
time and two most awaited smartphones have been launched in India, the Nexus 5 and iPhone 5S. Let us have a comparative look at the Google LG Nexus 5 and Apple iPhone 5S:
: The dimensions of Google Nexus 5 are 138 x 69 x 8.6 mm and it weighs approximately 130 grams. On the other hand, the dimensions of iPhone 5S are 124 x 59 x 7.6 mm and it weighs about 112 grams. Its a trade off between compatibility and big screen experience. So I’ll leave for you to decide about it.
Display: Google Nexus 5 comes with Full HD IPS touch display of 5 inches which offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Where as, iPhone 5S carries a 4 inch touch display with 1136 x 640 pixels resolution. I would personally favour the Nexus 5 but that does not mean that the iPhone 5S is a second either.
Processor: The Nexus 5 has been powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Krait quad core processor that has been clocked at 2.26 Giga Hertz while the iPhone 5S comes with Apple A7 chipset. On paper the Nexus 5 looks better but test results have shown that the Apple offering is no minion either. Lets call it a tie in this regard.
Operating System: Nexus 5 works on Android 4.4 KitKat platform and the iPhone 5S runs on iOS 7. The good old Android vs iOS war starts again with this and this is something that varies with personal choice.
Camera: Both the smartphones has been loaded with a primary camera of 8 mega pixels. Nexus 5 also sports a front facing shooter of 1.3 mega pixels while iPhone 5S comes with a 1.2 mega pixel front facing camera. But the iPhone 5S is a better performer in the imaging department so this point goes to the Apple offering.
Memory: The Nexus 5 offers a RAM of 2GB whereas the iPhone 5S offers a 1GB LPDDR3 RAM. The internal storage capacity of Nexus 5 is 16/ 32 GB. Where as, the iPhone 5S comes with internal memory of 16/ 32/ 64 GB. That’s a tie one more time.
Battery: The battery embedded in Nexus 5 is powerful enough to offer 17 hours of talk time while iPhone 5S’ battery ensures 10 hours of talk time on 3G. So the Google offering wins in this regard.
Price: The price of Google Nexus 5 starts from Rs 28,999 while that of iPhone starts from Rs 53,500 and this is where the Nexus 5 pretty much nails it.
Our Take: After considering all the aspects, my verdict is in favor of Google Nexus 5 because, though both the devices are equally good in terms of features, but Nexus 5 is more value for money.
