4 Tips to Help You Write Comments that Attract Eager New Readers

I remember a few years ago, I received an email from Problogger.net after I submitted a guest post. They loved it and would publish it in a few days.

Here is the kicker; one of the editors of Problogger, one of the top blogs on earth, wanted to get in touch with me to offer me a guest posting opportunity based on the quality of my comments.
Imagine that. Problogger wanted me to write a guest post for them based on me sharing my opinion.

That fact alone did 2 things:
  • It humbled me
  • It showed me the power of posting helpful, insightful and relevant comments
The Fools
Many foolish bloggers believe commenting is a waste of time. Yes, it is, if you are commenting to get backlinks.
If you are commenting to add value and build relationships, and if you create comments like pieces of content, commenting is a powerful form of marketing.
My guest post offer from one of the top blogging blogs on earth proves this.

So how can you attract hungry new readers through a blog commenting strategy?

attract more readers to your blog

1# Create Comments like Content
Build each comment like a piece of content to snag the attention of new readers. Post a greeting, body and conclusion/sign off to make people take notice.
I like greeting my fellow blogger by name then I make a point discussing some aspect of the post. This shows that I actually read the post. I delve into the topic for at least a few paragraphs.
After sharing my view I thank the blogger for posting then proceed to sign off with my first name. This sears an impression on the minds of comment readers.

2# Comment Persistently
Commenting on a blog once every few weeks does not cut it. Become memorable by programming blog readers with your persistent, consistent, valuable comments.
Have you noticed how commercials or TV shows seem to grow on you after seeing them more than a few times? Commenting persistently yields a similar effect.

People will say, “Hey I know that Ryan Biddulph guy, he always leaves helpful comments on blog posts”, each time they come across your comments. Persistence wins in the reader attracting game.

After someone grows on you it is a matter of time before you become a loyal reader of their blog.

3# Share Your Experience
No regurgitating of the same old response to a blog post. I have heard that you want to create valuable posts for snagging more readers, and if I just repeat this line then most readers will tune out my comment immediately.
Write something different by sharing your experience. Comments are simply mini blog posts designed to add value to a post. That is it, just a piece of content you can use to relay an experience which helps a blogging audience.
Share stories. Make an impact. Teach lessons. Seize your chance to shine. Tell your story to impact readers and inspire more than a few to visit your blog.

4# Never Commit a Comment Drive By
I am guilty of this. I admit it. If I feel hurried or care not about the blog subject matter I post 1 line comments sometimes. Big mistake. I missed my chance to make an impact.
Write 3-4 paragraphs. No need to write long paragraphs; 1 sentence will do. But intend to create a masterpiece each time you comment to become memorable and attract more readers.
This approach of writing in-depth, thoughtful, mindful comments can reel in new readers by the boatload. Stick to this strategy, add value, make an impact and you too will attract new readers to your blog in no time.
