The War of Smartphone Cameras: Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

Samsung has been a big influence in the smartphone market and has increased its reputation with each and every release that it has made. On the other hand Nokia has resorted to the Windows OS and has provided a number of great releases at competitive prices.

While Samsung has relied on its Galaxy range to get it through in this market, Nokia has pinned its confidence on the Lumia range. Having different OS has not put these phones in open competition but there still has been the race for the best phone.

This time the competition is between two high end camera oriented phones, Nokia Lumia 1020 and Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. While the Lumia 1020 is a new entrant to the market the Galaxy S4 Zoom is a variant to the earlier Galaxy S4.

The Galaxy S4 Zoom has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a pixel ratio of 540 x 960, while the Lumia 1020 has a 4.5 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with a 768 x 1280 pixels with a Pure Motion HD+ display. The Lumia 1020 clearly scores in the display having a far better pixel density as compared to the S4 Zoom. The S4 Zoom runs on a 1.5 GHz Dual Core processor, which is supported by 1.5 GB of RAM. On the other hand the Lumia 1020 sports a similar 15. GHz Dual Core processor but with 2 GB RAM. The internal storage in Lumia is 32 GB as compared to the 8 GB storage of S4. There however is no additional card slot in the Lumia.

Both the phones can connect to 2G, 3G and 4G networks and therefore allow users to access high speed data networks. In addition both phones also can use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB connections. NFC feature is also available on both the phones. Now coming to the main point of contention between both the phones which is the camera.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom has a state of the art 16 MP primary camera which adds a big bulge in the rear of the phone. The camera has Xenon flash, autofocus, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilization, HDR and panorama feature. While this seems unbeatable the Nokia Lumia takes your breath away with its 41 MP camera. Yes I said it correct 41 MP camera.

The camera comes with Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, auto/manual focus, Xenon & LED flash, PureView technology, geo-tagging, face detection, dual capture and panorama. While the features of both the cameras might sound the same the immense difference in lens and picture quality is very evident. Nokia has put forward its PureView technology which they promise is bound to make your photography experience better than any other phone in the market.

The Lumia 1020 in this department will be very hard to beat. While most of the population does not even has a 41 MP camera Nokia has gone on and placed it in a phone. This is something Nokia has to be appreciated for. Moving on the Nokia Lumia 1020 has a 2000 mAh battery as compared to the 2330 mAh battery of S4 Zoom. The batteries of both these phones are sufficient enough for use but considering that both phones are camera heavy, the manufacturers could have included more battery back-up.
